National – SASA Treasurers’s Book – Accounts 1888 to 1921

The S.A.S.A. Treasurer’s Book are the Account Ledgers for the Association for the period from the it’s formation in 1888, through the turn of the 19th to 20th centuries, World War I and into the “Roaring Twenties”. When the founding fathers of the Association sat down at the end of 1888 with a turnover of just under £10 and looked into 1889, could they ever have envisaged that in the early 2020s the turnover of the organisation that they started would be over £1,000,000.

By the closure of the 1920 year, going into 1921, the audited Ledger shows a turnover was £304 with a balance of £46.

For any of the younger generation having a browse through these documents, please remember that they are pre-decimalisation of the of the UK monetary system, so you will see three columns for income and expenditure. Pounds, shillings and pennies. 12 pennies to the shilling, 20 shillings to the pound (just in case you want to check the calculations !!).
